05.11.2014 - Bremerhaven. MSC Gate Bremerhaven: A 10-year success story.

MSC Gate Bremerhaven celebrates its 10th anniversary today. The terminal went into operation on 1 October 2004. MSC Gate is a joint venture between EUROGATE and Terminal Investment Limited (TIL), an associated company of MSC Mediterranean Shipping Company. MSC Gate is a so-called “dedicated terminal” exclusively for the handling of the line’s own ships and ships belonging to partner shipping lines. Since its foundation ten years ago, MSC Gate has become an undisputed success story. Container handling volumes at the terminal have quadrupled. Over the years, the terminal has adapted its suprastructure in line with the increasing sizes of vessels. The first ships handled here ten years ago had a transport capacity of between 2,000 and 5,000 TEUs. Today’s container ships have a loading capacity of 16,000 TEUs upwards. MSC Gate is an efficient, modern container terminal with the capacity to handle the world’s biggest container ships.

Dr Heiner Heseler, counsellor to the Senator for Economics, Labour and Ports of the Free Hanseatic City of Bremen: “The extraordinarily successful development of Bremerhaven container terminal is based on long-standing and trust-based partnerships with the port’s customers. For Bremerhaven, MSC Gate is one of these partners, with whom we have successfully overcome the major challenges of the past years and with whom we are looking to further increase handling volumes in the future. With the support of the Federal and Lower Saxony state governments, the Free Hanseatic City of Bremen will ensure the relevant conditions, in particular efficient and seamless port hinterland transport operations, are met.”

Melf Grantz, governing mayor of the City of Bremerhaven: “With ten years of handling operations at Bremerhaven’s Stromkaje, MSC Gate has chalked up a success story in port handling operations. As a joint venture between the port operating company EUROGATE and the shipping line MSC, this cooperation makes a considerable contribution to value creation and capacity utilisation at the Bremerhaven container terminal. MSC Gate is a prime example of positive corporate development by pooling synergies.”

Vikram Sharma, CEO TIL – Terminal Investment Limited: “Terminal Investment Limited SA is very happy to celebrate its 10-year association with EUROGATE in MSC Gate Bremerhaven. The successful partnership has grown from strength to strength and is a source of great satisfaction both operationally as well as financially. We look forward to many more years of mutually beneficial cooperation.”

Emanuel Schiffer, Chairman of the EUROGATE Group Management Board: “We are looking towards the future with anticipation, especially concerning developments under the new 2M Alliance. MSC Gate will continue to adapt and move with the market, in line with what is meaningful and necessary. We maintain friendly relations with MSC and TIL and would like to thank our partner for the good cooperation. A very special thank you goes to the staff, who on a day-to-day basis make sure that everything on the quayside runs smoothly.”
